Rata Foundation is the South Island’s largest philanthropic organisation, having granted almost $450 million over the past 30 years to communities in need across Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and the Chatham Islands.
The Foundation receives no income from external funders or gaming machines making it unique philanthropic community. This also means that owning their own digital channels is critically important.
Formerly known as the Canterbury Community Trust, Rata was founded in 1988 through the visionary support of TrustBank through the placement of annual dividends.
In 1997 TrustBank was purchased outright by Westpac & Rata was the primary beneficiary of this sale, setting it up as a primary source of community funding for years to come. In 2015 the decision was taken to rebrand to the Rata Foundation in order to better reflect their strategic vision & core beliefs.
Having worked with the Trust since 2013, we immediately recognised the opportunity to completely reframe their digital communications through a reimagined web platform.
Leveraging the fresh & iconic Rata brand elements, we extended this to profile the multiple areas of community giving, skills development & showcase heartfelt stories of the impact the Rata Foundation has had on so many.
In the same way Rata Foundation has grown from humble beginnings to one of New Zealand’s largest grant making organisations, investment in a truly responsive digital platform enables direct communication with the community Rata serves.
Through innovation and education, Rata leads organisations towards sustainability and independence. This structured development leaves communities stronger, more connected and more prosperous.
“I’m provided with such a rich diversity of material everyday. Being able to tell the story of what Rata is doing & who Rata is helping through the website is incredibly powerful.”
