When NV Interactive was approached by long-term client Family Planning to provide expertise in not just the redevelopment but the rebrand and redesign of their new website, we were excited by the challenge and opportunity.

Since their beginning in 1936, to now being Aotearoa's largest national provider of sexual and reproductive health services and with a name that has been around since 1939, any change to their established identity had to be well planned and considered.

With such a diverse audience ranging from young people, families, clinicians, educators, parents and the LGBTQI+ community, it was important that the content was presented in a way that met these diverse needs.

Using a more conversational language to help to engage with these different audience groups with the use of questions and answers and advice topics for those who are unsure of what they are looking for, contrasted with clear navigation labels and more technical content for clinicians and educators who use the website for resources and courses and know exactly what they want.

On Valentine’s Day 2023, Family Planning launched their new name and brand, Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa.

At the heart of the website is that Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa are here to help people make decisions about their sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing, and NV are proud to celebrate along with them.

The Analysis Phase of the project was highly collaborative including key NV team members from strategy through to design and development alongside key Family Planning stakeholders. Through a series of workshops, this team helped to define the strategy, scope and requirements for the project with the business and technical discovery being led by NV Interactive.

Following the highly detailed UX phase, which involved understanding user-flows, the information architecture and producing wireframes as a result of the analysis phase, NV began working on the user-interface design.

The design phase was based on the outcomes of the Analysis Phase and the UX. It was an iterative phase which involved extensive feedback from key stakeholders within Family Planning, and the expertise from within NV Interactive to produce visual designs that were both functional, engaging and attractive.

Before the launch of the new name to the public, NV embarked on a soft launch which involved launching the new look-and-feel.

Alongside an upgrade of the website which included a migration of existing functionalities, we also managed the integration of Vendr for the shop as well as donations within the website. This future-proofed eCommerce solution replaced and older system and enabled integration with SWAs finance system.

The website features include forms which we upgraded to to include better monitoring, displaying courses, a powerful website search to enable users to find the information they need, a shielded site, newsletter signup, find a clinic which allows of individual clinic fee management within Umbraco, clinic and website alerts and news.

Extensive user testing during the UX and UI phases to ensure the functionality of the website meets the specific needs of disabled clients including careful consideration for WCAG accessibility guidelines.

General UI visual

Providing a range of content but in easy to digest ways using accordions, diagrams, videos, badges and colour blocks and illustrations to help provide visual areas of interest and rest for visitors.

Mobile/Accessibility visual

Accessibility was a key consideration throughout the entire UX and UI process. Meeting AA and AAA accessibility guidelines including for colour contrast, was regularly tested and refined throughout the project process through internal NV testing and external testing groups.

Ask an appointment visual

The design and development of an online ask for an appointment form is a big leap towards providing clients with as much functionality as possible, within the constraints of the budgets and personnel that help keep Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa running.

Find a clinic visual

Find a clinic allowing users to select their region or use the geo location function to find their closest clinic. Each clinic displays key details such as their address, click to call and get directions buttons, the services they offer and the ability to click through for more detailed clinic information. This detailed information includes a Google map, appointment types, clinic hours, fees, accessibility and other useful client and clinic information.
